OUR SERVICES

MAP’s capital campaign approach is based on the philosophy that the largest gifts come as a result of high-quality decisions made within deep and reciprocal relationships.

Quality decisions come from a commitment to discovering donors’ passions and interests and connecting them with the campaign vision. MAP will guide and walk with you through these core principals of a successful campaign.

Core Principles

  • Establishing precedent by building the appropriate campaign infrastructure
  • Identifying the prospective donor resources with capacity to fund the campaign’s financial objective
  • Crafting and communicating a compelling and urgent campaign narrative and story
  • Engaging, preparing, and equipping campaign leadership to be effective in their roles
  • Creating the strategy and environment to build and deepen donor relationships, and ultimately, for capacity giving to occur
  • Developing and managing a campaign plan and timetable that allows for success while maintaining discipline and building momentum

Deliverables

  • Service delivered on site and through all forms of technology
  • Training and orientation tools and material
  • Guidance, support, and hands-on implementation through all campaign strategies and activities
  • Regular monitoring and reporting for accountability

For the same reasons that we visit our family physician and dentist periodically for a checkup, it is wise for a development operation to be assessed periodically for efficiency and effectiveness.

MAP’s Development Checkup (DCU) is a brief assessment of your current development operation. This process allows us to better understand the current fundraising landscape of your organization and recommend the level of Development Counsel service that best meets your needs.

The DCU includes:

One-on-one interviews with 2-3 key leaders

Review of your fundraising activities, budgets, and collateral

Review of recent giving history to your organization

Assessment of your current staffing and structure

A memo report to staff and board leadership summarizing the strengths and challenges identified

A set of recommendations and next steps for consideration

How much does a Development Checkup (DCU) cost?

The fee for Mission Advancement’s DCU is $950 and can be completed within a few days. In addition, the entire fee for the DCU can be credited toward subsequent development counsel services provided by the Mission Advancement team.

How long does a Development Checkup (DCU) take?

Mission Advancement can complete the entire DCU within two weeks of your decision to proceed. To minimize disruption of your staff and activities, the MAP team will consolidate our onsite time to a half-day to gather information and, later, a two-hour meeting to present the DCU report.

What do we need to do to prepare for a DCU?

Absolutely nothing to initiate the DCU. Once engaged, Mission Advancement will provide detail instructions to help you gather the materials for our review. The MAP team will schedule the interviews with your leaders at a mutually convenient time. Finally, MAP will ask that you schedule a two-hour meeting with leadership to receive the DCU report.

How do we get started with Development Checkup (DCU)?

Getting started is as simple as letting us know and paying for the DCU. You may pay online with a credit card or by check and invoice. In any case, MAP will ask you to agree to the basic terms of the service and accept Mission Advancement’s commitment to non-disclosure, since we will be privy to confidential information.

Upon completion of the half-day site visit, the MAP team will prepare a written summary to present to you and your leadership. The report will include:

  • Strategic summary of strengths and opportunities
  • Actionable recommendations for both staff and board

What are the options offered in Development Counsel service? Mission Advancement offers four distinct levels of service based on the specific needs of and circumstances within your development office.

Level 1 – Where Do We Start? Building the Foundation.
This service is designed for the nonprofit that wants to begin building a fundraising strategy. This includes young organizations in the early stages of start-up and growth, as well as mature organizations needing to replace or supplement other traditional revenue streams such as membership or public funding.

Level 2 – How Do We Grow? Ready for Relationship Based Fundraising.
This service is designed for the nonprofit that has an annual fundraising plan (events, annual campaigns, etc.) and now desires to establish an effective major gifts strategy, engaging individual donors in more meaningful relationships to the organization. Level 2 focuses on best practices of individual donor engagement and building relationships that lead to long-term sustainable funding.

Level 3 – How Do We Thrive? Ready to Take it to the Next Level.
This service is for the development operation utilizing multiple fundraising strategies but desiring better alignment and strategy connecting the overall fundraising plan. Level 3 begins with an in-depth audit of current fundraising strategies in order to determine the optimal mix of activities with the highest return, based on your financial goals and staff & volunteer capacity to carry them out.  During Level 3 service, the MAP team works with your leadership to create a three-year strategic development plan that connects all fundraising activities to the overall fundraising goals with measurable outcomes and metrics.

Level 4  How do we overcome specific challenges? Extraordinary Circumstances in a mature development operation.
This service is a custom-designed service created to help a mature development office solve specific, complex fundraising issues.

All service packages begin with a minimum six-month engagement and include both onsite and remote sessions with your staff and volunteer leadership.

What will we have to show for our investment? Mission Advancement works with your team to create capacity for sustainable fundraising growth in the future. Your team will receive training in best practices of relationship based fundraising, systems to plan and track growth, and donor planning tools to guide weekly and monthly activity.

When will we recover our investment? While the exact return on investment (ROI) will vary based on the unique circumstances of each nonprofit, your investment should be fully recovered with fundraising growth within a year of executing the recommended actions.

“Mission Advancement's methodology of tapping into the capacity of a relatively small number of individual donors rather than the local churches to fund our campaign has produced results we have never seen before in Indiana. We have surpassed the expectations of the feasibility study and are closing in on our victory goal, which will exceed our original need by over $3 million.”
